Needed: $17,196.48 for Medical Debt

Home

Hi, my name is Mark. I created this free web page because I need your help. I began to become ill in the middle of May 2009. I went to visit a doctor on 05/28/09. I didn't have any insurance and I am unemployed. The doctor thought that my needs would run into the several thousands of dollars and if he ordered it through his office I would have to pay upfront. I didn't have the money to pay that much out of pocket. He told me I should leave his office and go to an emergency room. He said that was the only way to get the care without having to pay it upfront. I took his advice although I wished I hadn't now.

I was admitted to the hospital on 05/28/09 and kept until 06/02/09. During this time they managed to compile list of charges totaling $22,925.51. During my stay I never got any treatment for my illness. This was all for tests, with the exception of some IV's and a few doses of Nexium.

My diagnosis was for acute hepatitis b and the doctor now seems to think I need medication due to my age. The prescriptions are said to be about $600 per month and the doctor says I need it for one year.

I have tried to apply for charity care but I still have too much money to qualify. It seems you have to lose everything to get any help. If you still have a few dollars left you can't get any help. I don't have any children either. If I did I could qualify for assistance. Single people are discriminated against. I can't get medicaid or medicare and I can't qualify for indigent care. It appears that I will lose everything I have due to this unforeseen illness.

I am asking for your help. If 40,000 people could give just 50 cents each then I could stay in my home and out of bankruptcy. One billionaire that could grant a large lump sum would solve the problems too. Anything that can be given will be greatly appreciated. To those that give, good karma will find it's way to you. Bless you for your kindness.

I plan to have a 'thanks to' page where I will post the names of all contributors that wish to be recognized.

What I will do in return is post a page of healthcare resources for the uninsured and under insured. I will tell my healthcare horror story so that others may avoid the nightmare that I have endured.

Thanks again for your contributions. It truly means the world to me.

Mark
